aughoose, christ the kingbigThe old Aughoose Church, the parish church, was begun under the direction of PP Neal McNulty sometime after 1826 and measured 80 feet by 30 feet.

The present Aughoose Church, Christ The King, Aughoose was built in 1961-2, during the time when James Holmes was PP and cost €25,000 to complete. Patrick Howley started to collect funds for Inver Church in 1918 but it was not until 1932 that the foundation stone was blessed by Bishop Naughton and the church dedicated in 1936. The contract price was £4,150 and the furniture cost £2000. The site had been acquired from the Land Commission free of charge.

The old Cornboy chapel in the sand dunes’ was destroyed in a storm in 1911 and the present church which opened in 1914, at a cost of£2,000. A book to celebrate its centenary, The New Church, Building, People & Priests, has been published by Eddie Rogan, former co-pastor of Kilcommon.
